My Thoughts And Suggestions On Current
Issues
Jobs In America,The Cycle Of Fear, And
Other Issues
Written By James R. Morgan ll
Jobs in America is quite the issue,
isn't it? To address the symptoms of the root problem and not what's actually
causing the problem, is in itself is an exercise in futility that only leads to
confusion and further inaction, or wrong action.
If we were to realistically look at
the base problem in America, we would see that the unemployment issue rests in
the basic principles of supply and demand and thus, when Americans become scared
or apprehensive regrading the over all economy and stop spending it has the
"trickle UP" effect, lol.
In short, people stop spending,
companies down size, jobs are lost, stores close, people become unemployed for
long durations of time and begin drawing on private, state and government
resources such as unemployment and relief programs such as food stamps
etc.
So, in essence if the public becomes
afraid of what's going on in the economy, then this by itself will cause further
alarm to the public that in turn causes 300 million people to hang on to what
little money they have left. This in itself is the major contributor to the over
all problem of a spiraling economy.
The cycle of fear begins on the
consumers level and progresses on up to the cooperate level, from there perhaps
to the government level. Greed is another component along with the lack of
cooperate regulation that further encourages price gouging and so, this only
adds more fuel to the out of control fire.
When folks have less and less
financial capital in their bank accounts while at the same time seeing things
become more and more expensive on a daily basis, then this causes great concern
to the consumer and further fuels the negative effect concerning a economy in
the negative.
When taxes go up in a effort to
balance out both the sick economy and additional government expenditures, our
government experiences more and more pressure coming back to them in the way of
cries for smaller government, or cutting what the public deems as frivolous
government programs.
When government begins to cut programs
at the consumer's request, then others in society aren’t happy with this and
begin hurl allegations of corruption and disorganization at the governing body
amongst other things. The cycle of fear really creates a hostile environment and
moreover friction between the citizen and governing bodies.
It's really a catch 22, in that the
government attempts to do the impossible in satisfying “all the people all the
time”. This just isn't possible as we all know.
I do believe that the government does
in fact need some revamping in the way of exposing wasteful expenditures, or
wasteful spending to both streamline and make it a more efficient working
government.
I'm sure there are some in government
that are carrying out things that can be considered less then ethical however, I
believe that our government does the best that it can given set of current
circumstances.
So, in light of this, I tend to
withhold my judgment on certain government issues, lol. In other words, to judge such a complex
situation via partial information only leads to a false, or unjustified
conclusion and thus, I will just say that I am not personally qualified to judge
it on what I've heard via third party. You just can't form a complete opinion
given half the facts.
I would like to see more transparency
coming from our government in the way of consistent reports along with itemized
list expenditures, especially when certain expenditures call for new tax hikes.
The key term her is in ( Consistent Reports) especially when your asking for
more money, lol.
Of course, this is a brief synopsis of
the problems over all that many of us are all ready aware of yet, it is
background from which I build.
I know that much thought has all ready
been given to these matters as I've heard these same statements and resolutions
coming coming back to me via the mainstream media and White House yet, nothing
is really being done about it as far as I can tell.
I've actually heard some of the below
suggestions coming from White House officials yet, nothing is really carried out
to my knowledge any way. Perhaps, things are being done or implemented without
the public’s knowledge of such activities.
How Do We Break The Cycle Of
Fear?
How do we break the cycle of fear? We
begin where it starts being at the consumer level. Let's face it, "Corporate
America" all the way up to government can not exist without the worker ants,
correct? So, it is the consumer that makes up the corporate and private sectors
along with constructing the government through a democratic process,
agreed?
Jobs would be the key issue here as
folks must have jobs not only to make it on a daily basis, but in having some
hope in achieving the American dream, right? The same American dream to which
is pretty nonexistent at this stage in the game for a good many as a result of
the economic crash. It's all about morale and people feeling good about their
environment.
How do we create jobs? This is the
question on the floor at present. Again, when we look at the root problem of
our economic difficulties, we see that it's based at the rudimentary level of
generating jobs to stimulating the economy, and this is where we must
start.
Creating Jobs And Solving The Energy
Crisis
We also have another problem in that
we as a country are energy dependent on other countries and thus, this is
another factor that throws even more fuel to the blaze of economic disaster. It
only adds more insult to injury when stimulus funds are paid to other nations
through outsourcing citing U.S stimulus funds being paid out to Canada and Great
Britain.
Ok, let's think about this for a
moment while devising a way to not only strengthen our economy but in solving
the energy crisis as well without creating much more of a
national debt. Now, what I'm about to propose to you will take unity and
sacrifice on everyone’s part, but in theory it should work.
We have a wide diversity of talented
and skillful persons in the ranks of the unemployed currently that moreover are
in need employment. On the other hand, we have a vast and unrecognized pool of
natural and other resources available to us that we aren’t typically
utilizing.
We further have the energy technology
regarding alternative fuels, wind mill and water energy generation etc. So, we
have a endless resource of man power, technology, and resources at our disposal
that should be sufficient enough to address these over all problems, especially
if we delegate these resources in a proper and timely manner.
Yes, it will take some planning, time,
effort, and great sacrifice on all our parts to make this work; however it can
be done.
I would propose that we take some of
the raw resources available to us such as factories that have closed down or
foreclosed on, and refit them for mass production in making electric wind and
water generators.
Perhaps solar panels and the
exploration of methane gas uses. These alternative forms of energy generation or
power generation are here so why don't we implement them past the electric car
that's all ready in use?
Actually, we've had these technologies
for a very long time dating back to the sixties and before in some instances.
Once we've gotten this under way, we can then re train and acclamate mass
numbers of the unemployed to these factory settings to begin generating money
back into the national economy and thus, this will spike the economy back into
the green.
Old hospitals can be reopened to house
the mentally ill and thus creating many new jobs for the unemployed with medical
backgrounds along with custodial, security jobs, positions for cooks, kitchen
personnel, hospital administrators, supervisors, file clerks, medical
records personnel and more. Other jobs can be generated in the schools,
housing construction industry and forestry department in the way of green
jobs.
The man power could be derived from
the unemployment pools, the buildings or factories can be acquired from
foreclosure or abandoned properties and so on. When you think about the money
that we're spending on other things such as unpopular conflicts or wars, these
suggestions or plans would be a small price sticker in comparison.
Again, with the vast resources we as
Americans have at our disposal, we shouldn't have a unemployment problem and
further should be moving moving forward at a high rate of speed in solving our
energy dependence problems as well.
If a plan such as this can be
implemented, we could see an immediate deflation in the economical debt racial
via less folks depending on state and federal relief programs such as food
stamps and over all unemployment benefits being paid out etc.
This would also in turn effect other
programs such as social security in the way that the retirement age could remain
the same along with stabilizing some parts of the health care system. Why?
Because the federal government would subsequently be able to pay out further
benefits as a result of the financial burdens being removed in other areas to
some greater or lesser extent.
The Domino Effect-Playing By The
Rules
You see, it's all about the domino
effect that moreover works both ways, or from the consumer all the way up to the
fortune 500 companies, and then back down again from corporate America to the
consumer. Both bodies of corporate and consumer base must remain healthy stable
entities in order for government to thrive.
Of course, and from my understanding,
there exists many other issues in play such as inside trading, kick backs,
questionable salary increases or bonuses concerning Wall Street, drug
manufacture ethics, health care and banking system policies that need to be
addressed to ensure that another economic meltdown never occurs
again.
On the subjects of banking, insurance,
health care and Wall Street, I would say that major legal restrictions should be
passed, enacted and rigidly enforced in these areas of the financial supper
structure pertaining any unlawful activity that may be occurring.
Salary and bonus caps would be the
best place to start with this; however this must be enforced without fail.
Government is government and the private sector is the private sector, right?
Lobbyists need to follow the rules and back room deals should be illegal. This
type of greed should for all intense purposes be a thing of the distant past if
we as a country are to survive and thrive.
We of course would accomplish this by
placing much stricter laws through no nonsense legislation that will in turn
govern these major cooperate entities in the future decades to come. It's all
about being ethical and playing by the same rules that the rest of us play by.
A level playing field if you will that promotes good will and ethical
conduct.
In closing, I personally can't
understand why we aren’t seeing more being done about the unemployment problems
when their seems to be so many ways that we as a nation can address and resolve
these particular issues within. I believe that our Congress, Senate and those
in the White House understand that "a house divided can not stand" quite
literally.
Again, I don't understand why we're
still so dependent on other nations especially when we have the technology and
resources to date in finding a better and cleaner way in powering this country.
What do you think?
I personally know numerous highly
skilled people that are seeking work currently who moreover have some very sound
ideas in resolving some of the main problems currently impeding this nations
growth yet, no one seems to be hearing these plausible and sound ideas. Or
simply not acting on them for whatever reasons, it's all really about common
sense when you stop to think about it.
War And Human
Rights
Unfortunately, war is a necessary evil
even though I really don't condone or advocate violence on any level within
exception to defending one's self, or in the defense of a defenseless person for
example. I don't believe in killing unless it's a last resort or in the way of
protecting others.
Unfortunately we have people that just
refuse to play by the rules of a civilized society as we've experienced fours
years ago when we dealt with the stalker Mary Prantil. Yet, Prantil is nothing
in comparison to the numerous other evils that can be seen taking place in the
world.
I don't believe in the needless or
unnecessary occupation of another country unless we have a valid reason for
being there. "Valid" is the key word here.
The way I define "valid reason" would
be in the case that this national entity was a possible, or imminent threat to
our U.S. borders yet, please understand that I'm speaking in regards to
temporary occupation and not long term.
Another scenario would be that we
we're protecting pre existing and legally owned natural resource belonging to
the U.S.A. Or perhaps a strategic location with the foreign countries
permission in us being there. It's all about ethics, mutual respect and doing
the right thing.
To involve American forces in the
pursuit of riding a nation or geographical area of given tyrannical regimes
really would depend on the human rights violations taking place and the general
consensuses of the United Nation, in my opinion.
I do believe that America does have to
draw the line concerning our involvement in various conflicts overseas, and that
there is such a thing as overkill in some instances. In other words, there's
other options open to our government in resolving political issues outside of
engaging in full scale wars, or in having one conflict after another.
I think we as a country also need to
understand that bringing democracy into a kingdom very seldom ever works as a
result of thousands of years of preconditioning regarding the local populous.
It's also a problem in keeping the peace between two countries that have been
at war with one another for two to six thousand years.
I cite the the entire middle east and
the 38th parallel between north and south Korea, that leads me to the next
point I'd like to make. I think, we as a Nation need to start discerning which
conflicts are worthy of our attention and what conflicts we need to let nature
take it's course without our assistance.
Your quality will be known to enemy
and friend alike through you fair practices and earnest efforts through
diplomacy. Again, knowing how to conduct one's self through fair actions and
knowing when to pull out of a conflict can gain more respect and acclaim then a
constant display of might.
Securing American
Borders
We currently have a problem with U.S
border enforcements as I understand it and so, I would suggest that we bring
at least 200,000 of our Troops home and place these returning Troops as guards
along our borders. 1000,000 to 200,000 Troops would insure the security of our
borders beyond a doubt.
Some of these Troops could also be
dispatched, or transferred to temporary assignments to drug enforcement agencies
regarding "The war on drugs". This of course would free up the National Guard
units for emergency relief efforts in the natural disaster arena.
Moreover, a percentage of these Troops
could in fact work with private contractors and the Army Corps of engineers to
repair our super structures such as roads, bridges, dams, levies, railways, run
ways and so much more.
This in itself would address the
federal border fence project that doesn't seem to be completed as of yet.
Again, government training programs could be implemented to recruit and train
Individuals in maintaining the technical equipment that will in turn maintain
this electronic border.
National Gun
Control
Americans have the "right to bear
arms" as cited in the Constitution as we all know however, certain forms of gun
control should be enacted when it comes to automatic weapons, or weapons that
can be converted into automatic weapons.
This also includes the certain bands
of other such articles such as the multi round magazines and other accessories
that go with automatic or semi automatic weaponry.
The only folks outside of law
enforcement and military that seem to have need of automatic weapons are
seemingly the paramilitary groups, or other persons that may or may not have a
possible violent intent.
If serious persons wish to assist the
country in its defense and further wish to possess automatic weapons, then
there's always enlisting as a option LOL. Really, there's no need for
automatic weapons in the private sector or around the U.S. populace as I see
it.
I really think that the solution to
this issue really rests in strict screening of recipients via applying for, and
obtaining single action, or revolver action weapons used for self protection or
for hunting purposes.
Regarding automatic and semi automatic
weapons, I would suggest enforced background checks and strict licensing
procedures. This is a good safety catch that would in turn keep these sorts of
weapons out of the hands of extremests and nuts.
I also think that the Constitution
needs to be amended in the way that a higher age restriction be placed on
obtaining a weapons such as a revolvers as this may cut down on person's of
lesser age in obtaining something that could produce deadly force.
A medium must be sought when it comes
to guns of any kind. Every time a pistol or other type of weapon is sold across
the counter, there exists the chance that an unstable person could gain access
to a method of deadly force that could be used on perceived enemies or other
innocent persons.
Of course, over all gun control won't
accomplish anything as the criminal will tend to access a firearm from the black
market, or perhaps use the gun of a relative and so, preventive measures must be
taken here as well to prevent a form of deadly force in falling into the wrong
hands.
To enforce a specific gun control
ordinance of this nature, a law wound need to be passed and enforced that makes
the gun owner liable for the use of his weapon regardless to who's using it much
as a car owner can be held liable when his car was involved in a accident of
some type.
Another benefit would be in people
turning in faster reports in gun theft cases or lost weapons and thus, gun and
ballistic tracking could become a refined science through a simple but detailed
registry.
Yes, this is additional work for law
enforcement yet, a more effective grip could be retained concerning who
possesses and who is using a certain type of weapon in a given area. Remember,
some sacrifices are required to make America safe once more.
Everyone should be allowed the
security of personal protection however, gun safety courses should be required
before a person is allowed to have a weapon not alone carry a concealed weapon.
If you don't know how to use a firearm, or not prepared to use it unless you
have to, then this is a false sense of security at best.
It's also important for everyone to
realize that when you carry a firearm, your taking the chance of either having
that weapon being used against you by the criminal element, or you may have to
use it as a means to yield deadly force against the potential attacking
perpetrator.
You must also take into account, that
should you make a bad shoot that you could fall subject to violation of law such
in using excessive deadly force to which could actually get you a manslaughter
charge or worse yet, a prison sentence.
Yes, we have the right to have
personal protection in the way of carrying a firearm yet, there's a lot more to
it then you may realize such as state to state laws pertaining to your weapon,
the way you carry it, or where you actually store it in your vehicle or home
etc.
Lastly, should you have the
unfortunate opportunity to use your weapon you should know that as the rule
goes, if you pull your weapon, then you should be ready to use it.
Most folks think that if someone is
aware that your carrying a firearm, or should you pull a firearm as a display of
force in the hopes that people will become afraid and run from you, this isn't a
good idea either.
Most people will run however, the
criminals are nasty ill tempered people that will more then likely be provoked
into attacking you verses running away.
If you draw down on a criminal then
remember, your playing for keeps and your perhaps committed in using that
firearm quite possibly. If the firearm isn't a element in the event the
criminal may just rob and flee. Only you know what your capable of and prepared
to carry out regarding the possible use of a firearm, use discretion and good
sense.
Most police officers that die in the
line of duty won't even have the opportunity to pull their firearm because even
the police can be caught off guard. Really the best thing to do is in being
observant of your environment and always give yourself an escape route. If
something doesn't look right, then remove yourself from that uncomfortable
area.
Pepper spray can be just as effective
as a firearm given the right circumstances, or even a good directed kick
directed a soft target of the subject. When you carry a gun for personal
protection, please know that your taking a life and death responsibility onto
yourself and that you may not have luxury of making a life or death
decision.
Again, I believe that we have the
right to own and carry guns for self protection or hunting purposes yet, I also
believe that we need to be sane responsible people who have the good sense to
know that we possess deadly force when carrying hand guns.
I don't believe in gun wielding fools
who wish to go out and play "cops and robbers", or re live a Clint Eastwood
movie, LOL. I simply think that to carry or possess a firearm is a personal
responsibility that I don't think everyone is up to, and thus, safety checks
should be in place to protect the rest of society.
In the end, if the criminal element
gets the jump on you, then guns won't do you any good to begin with. Awareness
is the best weapon if you ask me outside of having a big mean dog,
lol.
Racial Profiling
As far as I'm concerned there's
nothing wrong with subject profiling, yet I do have a problem with racial
profiling on the grounds that it really steps outside the realms of criminal
profiling over all. In short, a criminal is a criminal no matter the color of
his skin, or ethnic background. This is what makes criminal profiling such a
awesome tool in which many police departments have used over the years to catch
the crook or killer.
I understand that some states have a
need to seal their borders in a effort to protect their local economy, or
perhaps they're suffering because of the lack of enforcement on a federal level
however, I don't really feel that racial profiling is the answer in that
instance.
The problem with racial profiling, is
that by restricting your profiling to a certain ethnic group, your actually
cutting down, or obstructing your possible subject pool. In other words, you
may have certain persons that fit the profile, but they may not be the person
that actually carried out the crime.
We would miss our mark simply because
we were looking at the skin color, or ethnic style of the person instead of
actually looking at the known personality traits of a given person, or suspected
criminal who may belong to another group or sex.
So, to profile a person as a result of
skin color, ethic background, or overall culture really doesn't serve any real
purpose other then what can be construed as harassment and civil right violation
when you arrest the wrong person.
I would say that if a particular state
or group of states had a breach of state boundaries due to a immigration issue
then this should warrant the federal government stepping in. Why? Because this
is actually a matter of national security and that makes it a federal
matter.
I also believe that the state would be
well within the right to "card" subjects under reasonable suspicion and possibly
make an arrest under reasonable cause. Reasonable cause and suspicion have
certain definitions depending on the state your currently in; just so you the
reader know this.
If a Spanish person was stopped as a
result of reasonable suspicion, then I'm sure he wouldn't mind showing proof of
citizenship no more then I would be willing to do this myself.
I believe that the states should be
fair in their assessments of possible border jumpers and in profiling correctly,
but I also believe that states are also deserving of federal assistance
especially when it's a matter of national security.
What is the difference between a
hostile faction coming in from the middle east or over the Mexican border? The
answer is, there's no difference at all. And so, illegal migration no matter
the type or crossing point, should be handled as a national security issue and
further, states should have the backing of the federal government in addressing
such issues.
In the case of the state of Arizona, I
would say that this is a matter of national security as the primary problem, and
then a matter of a over loaded state economy as a secondary issue due to illegal
immigration. This is most certainly some serious issues that must be addressed
as all the border states may have the same problem eventually.
In closing, I think this is a case of,
"two wrongs don't make a right" in that the federal government hasn't enforced
certain laws and the state in question took it upon themselves to implement
certain policies that at times could be construed as unconstitutional and
harassing to naturalized citizens.
